First Encounters with Die Form
I was curious to hear how others first came into knowing and or hearing about Die Form. I have my own strange tale to tell, but I would enjoy hearing others relate their first experiences...

....As for me, my first experience into the electronic music world was introduced by my 52 year-old father at the time(he was a drunk amoung other things who thought of the music as "spacy!") who recorded tapes of industrial music from a local college music station off the radio. I ended up listening to a lot of those tapes(tapes... man that was a long time ago). Anyway I got to liking the music on those tapes and that was my only media of learning about that genre of music at the time. There was one particualar song that I thought was really cool and wanted to hear more of that band...

Years later many of those tapes had gone missing but the songs were fresh in my mind. I had gotten into some of those music groups since then but I had wanted something from that one group. So, in a time when I made much more money than I am now and I could afford to spend $15 on a CD without care (yeah, those were the days); I was searching through the CDs at a store and found one... It was Die Form: Extremum. Thinking it was the band I had always remembered from the days of listening to those tapes (but having some doubts) I bought it in hopes that it was.

Well no, it wasn't... but it ended up being one of the best mix ups I have ever made. I was amazed with what I was hearing. Since then (about six years ago now)Die Form has become something i identify with musically. My frame of mind meshes with quite well. But what a strange road to have happened by chance... I still haven't met anyone other than my self that knows of Die Form so anyone I know that hears of it, hears it first through me.

To conclude the story, I am still uncertain as to the original band I was searching for. It has been 12 to 13 years since I had those tapes recorded from the college radio station, but I will make a guess that I may have been searching for... Die Krupps(?)... I still don't have anything by them so I can't even remember what they sound like either, or if that was the band I was looking for.

Yeah, weird story, and probably not that eventful, or cool really. But I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I put that Die Form Album down in the store and tried to figure out what band I was really looking for. I probably wouldn't be writing this text... strange to think about...

If you have a strange tale to tell, lets hear it. I'm sure there are ones stranger than mine.

Re: First Encounters with Die Form
My first encounter was with a compilation that had Cantique II in it. One of my friend could play that song in loop for hours. Curious about the group I then went to local music store and only CD they had was Histories. I listened to it non stop for months! I since bought nearly all CDs (thank you eBay!!) and can't wait for ExHuman!

Re: First Encounters with Die Form
My encounter is not all that interesting, but I remember it as though it were yesterday ... and believe me, I don't remember that much. I was at a club called Soil, and underage club at the time. The first song I ever heard was Masochist II, and fell in love with it though I didn't realise exactly what it was about until I got it. It seemed that every song I fell in love with, turned out to be a Die Form song. Cantique, Bite of Dog, all the classics of the time (I'm talking ten or so years ago). So of course I had to go out and purchase everything Die Form.

I can still remember dancing on the little tiny hardwood floor, all the black gypsy skirts swaying and the bell bracelets twinkling ... and getting stuck in the lace tops. Ahh, the memories.

I got awstruck all over again when this forum opened up, of course and new music came out, and the books. It's lovely that a band can have been around for so long and hold up a person's interest and STILL make such great music.

Ah, if I don't stop now, I'm going to rant.

,,,=^..^=,,,~~~

For many years I have been interested in european music. Some years ago, I went to a CD store and I found the "Suspiria de Profundis" album and fell in love with its cover and as I noticed that the musicians were european, I knew I had to buy it and so I did.
I played it that same afternoon and it was just… wonerful!!!
